Hey everyone! I wasn't sure what to call this mani and I decided on armor because my nails looked like they were wearing glittery armor! Wanna see what I did?
Little glittery coats of armor. You might remember I posted swatches of Color Club's Backstage Pass Collection a few weeks ago, and I mentioned wanting to do this with the collection's namesake, Backstage Pass.
If you want to acheive this look, you need lots of patience.
I was home alone one night with lots of time to spare, so I broke out this polish, a toothpick, and I went for it!
You actually have to arrange the glitters one by one onto your nails.
I found it easiest to put a thin coat on the nail to give the glitters something to stick to, and then blob the polish onto some paper and pick up the glitters a few at a time with a toothpick. (That way, you don't get a ton of clear polish onto your nails and it won't be so thick and hard to dry.)
It can be difficult to get the glitter all the way to the edge so I filled in any big gaps at the tip or sidewalls with silver polish. (You can really notice the silver in the photos but in person it's pretty invisible.)
I needed like 4 coats of topcoat before I had no bumps.
I really loved this look - it was ridiculously shiny and blingy. It looked like those Minx nail appliques that were all the rage a few months ago. I really wanted to keep this mani on for a long time but I found that the edges were poking out after a day or so, so I had to take it off.
What do you guys think? Would you do this, or am I totally insane? (Don't answer that last one.)
The end effect is really cool, but I don't know if I would have the patience to do it!
ReplyDeleteI really liked how this turned out. It looks great
ReplyDeleteUn glitter muy original.
ReplyDeletethat is the most unique glitter i think i've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI think that is a very pretty look. Too bad it didn't last very long though, especially after all the work you did!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd have the patience to do that, but it looks great!
ReplyDeleteThats really pretty but thats is a lot of glitter! Wow I dont have that much patience!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! It looks so funky.
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty but I have to give you credit for patience! I slap on the glitter in thick coats and *maybe* I'll arrange it on the nail somehow ;) But it looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh, I like what you did! Too bad for the bad application, I would never have the patience=)
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful *__*
ReplyDeletenew post - up all night♥mfashionfreak
wow this is amazing!!!! gorgeous
ReplyDeletei would totally do it but would dread removal every time i looked at it
ReplyDeleteI did this exact same thing -the silver awhile ago! It looked really cool at first then did the bumpy thing.
ReplyDeleteI envy your patience. I think I would put down a silver base coat as "underwear" and then apply it to make sure it went to the edges, instead of afterwards. Armor is definitely the right word! ;)
ReplyDeletepushing around all the glitter on top of another color really makes a mess - i even had to remove my basecoat because it was clouding up the glitter!
DeleteOh my goodness. This glitter is so pretty. I have never seen anything like it! Off to order now XD
ReplyDeletevery cute! I like how its dark but still girly
ReplyDeletewow, this is just...WOW
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I really like it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love glitters, but I never can take it off easy :/
