Today I have a really fun tape technique to show you. Instead of using tape to create relief patterns, you use the tape to make your own nail stickers!
I saw this cool mani on The Beauty Department, which is a really fun site that I am guilty of stalking.
Can you spot the tape? Haha! The trick is to paint some tape, let it dry, and cut it into shapes to put onto your nails. It helps you create super even and straight lines, which is a good thing for me because I am awful with a striper brush.
I broke up the intensity of the plaid with a solid accent nail, which I think looks pretty cute!
I took a whole bunch of pictures of this mani because I was really proud of it!
It can be kind of difficult to cut the tape into small pieces so take your time, and then once on the nail, use cuticle nippers to clip the edges. I also used a file to smooth the edge of my nail a little, to stop the tape from hitching.
The polishes I used are:
Urban Decay - Superfreak (gold)
Urban Decay - Woodstock (pink)
OPI - Fly (teal)
Essence - You Belong To Me (light blue/green)
The base color is a light gray franken I made.
What do you guys think of this fun way to use tape? I think I'll definitely be trying it again!
I love the look. do you know how long the tape stays on the nail?
ReplyDeleteWith a good coat or two of topcoat, you should get normal wear from the mani! So long as it's sealed in there, it should be fine. But if you don't seal all the edges it does peel pretty quickly.
DeleteI also saw this post of The Beauty Department (you're definitely not the only one guilty of stalking their website!) This looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! I also would like to know how well the wear is on this, since I know that normal striping tape tends to peel off really easily.
ReplyDeleteas i just commented above, it wears well so long as you seal it well with topcoat and don't leave any hitching edges.
DeleteOMG, I LOVE this!
ReplyDeletebeautiful comb of colors!!! And beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteSuper mani :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great! This must have taken you forever!
ReplyDeleteit did take some time! but the crisp lines were worth it :)
DeleteIt looks amazing, but I don't think I have the patience to cut the tape for both hands. I'd probably cave and haul out the striper in desperation!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours used!!!! Verrrrry pretty! (:
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely! Does the tape come off easily when you try to remove the mani? I have to try this some time. :)
ReplyDeleteyep! it all kinda smeared off with the remover and i picked off the large pieces.
DeleteThe plaid looks so cute! I would totally try this technique over trying to get it perfect with line brushes.
